LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Parvez Elahi said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had ignored Punjab’s interests for his politics. Speaking about Greater Thal Canal project, chief minister said if project funded by Asian Development Bank (ADB) under loan agreement was not approved by federal government until December 13, agreement would automatically expire.
He said Shehbaz had ruined livelihoods of peasants and cultivators who need canal water for their crops.
He said project was granted approval by Executive Committee of National Economic Council but federal government was not serious about it. He said construction and restoration of Greater Thal Canal would be carried out in phases. It would result in irrigation of 600,000 acres.
