CM Baqar vows for promoting technological improvements in Sindh

KARACHI: Caretaker Chief Minister Sindh Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqar said that his priority is centered on promoting continuous technological improvements and upgradation to increase competitiveness of agriculture sector, including sugar industry.
He said that central government established high-powered ‘Special Investment Facilitation Council’ to attract investments from Gulf Cooperation Council countries in field of defence, agriculture, minerals, IT and energy.
Caretaker CM said that as member of SIFC’s Apex Committee, he was determined to focus on channeling investments to boost productivity and competitiveness of Sindh’s agriculture sector, including sugar industry. I am also firm believer in fostering cross-sectoral collaborations for improving lives of our population which has been struggling with soaring inflation in stagnant economy.
Speaking at inauguration session of 55th Annual Convention of Pakistan Society of Sugar Technologists organised at local hotel caretaker CM said that PSST was founded for overarching purpose of sharing and disseminating knowledge among sugar technologists. He appreciated Society for conducting workshops, seminars and annual conventions for imparting knowledge and new ideas pertaining to the sugar industry among members of society.
Caretaker CM said that our sugar industry has expanded substantially over years with 33 sugar mills in province. CM said that Pakistan in general and Sindh in particular, was endowed with immense natural resources, however, we have yet to tap full potential, especially of agricultural resources. He said that with onslaught of climate change-induced shocks, our agriculture sector including sugar industry needed climate resilience and adaptation with appropriate mitigation measures for sustainable production.
