CM approves Rs5.5bn Smart Safe City project

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah approved signing of an agreement of Rs 5.5 billion between Sindh Police Department and NRTC to launch first phase of Smart Safe City project in red zone.
Approval of agreement was made in meeting and was attended by Home Minister Zia Lanjar, Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab, Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah, IG Police Riffat Mukhtar, MD NRTC Brigadier Asim Ishaque, DG Sindh Safe Cities Authority asif Aijaz Shaikh and others.
CM was told that Smart Safe City project 1,300 CCTV cameras would be installed at 300 sites in Red Zone and airport corridor with FR and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) capability within eight hours solar back.
To question, CM was told that 193 km OFC network would connect 18 police stations. Cameras would relate to Command and Control Centre of CPO and then permanent C&CC would be developed at KPO.
Smart safe city project would have capability of facial recognition and number plate recognition system. Under system monitoring of hospitals for criminals/suspects, multiple camera tracking against suspects and response, database management of criminals and integration with National, Criminal and other databases.
CM said that project was much awaited and finally it was seeing day of light and hoped that project would achieve its purpose. “I want you NRTC to complete first phase in one and half years,” he said. NRTC had given him two years to complete first phase.
CM said that Karachi has more than 20.38 million population which would increase further by 20230. Therefore, to control crime and critical incidents, public unrest, disaster management and traffic safety were his top priorities and their solution lay in technological integration and cyber security. Asif Aijaz Shaikh and Brig Asim Ishaque signed agreement in presence of Murad Ali Shah, Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah and others.
