KARACHI: Sixteen renowned clerics of ‘Deoband’ school of thought issued fatwa [religiou decree] declaring terror attacks in Pakistan “Haraam” and unlawful. According to ‘fatwa’ issued by religious scholars, there is need for clarification on questions raised in light of controversial statements made by anti-state groups.

“According to Shariah, rebelling against and an Islamic state is rebellion against Islam,” fatwa issued by scholars read.

First, ulema answered question of who can declare “Jihad” and under what circumstances. They said that leader of an Islamic state is responsible for defending region and thus has power to declare jihad under permitted circumstances.

Second, scholars declared that those who are killed while protecting Islamic Republic of Pakistan, such as, police and Army personnel are without doubt considered martyrs or shaheed.
