LAHORE: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Qazi Faez Isa has sought an explanation from Punjab Chief Secretary on unnecessary use of public resources and establishment of illegal guard rooms in government officers’ residencies in Lahore.

Registrar of Supreme Court wrote letter to Chief Secretary, expressing concern over unnecessary expenditure around government officers’ residences.

Registrar said that top judge heard cases from April 15 to 19 at Supreme Court Registry, Lahore, during which he stayed at Chief Justice Rest House in Government Officers Residence (GOR). Letter said that during stay, CJP Isa observed that changes were being made in government officers’ residences and illegal guard rooms had been established in open green area despite complete checking system at entrance. He said guard must be in premises of that residence where he was required.

Letter questioned whether it was justifiable to waste public resources on walls of government residences. “Why past example of fencing is abandoned, your answer will be awaited,” CJP asked in letter. He directed to provide rules and regulations regarding government residences, their construction and construction of their walls. This is not first time that he has spoken for adoption of austerity measures for government officers.
