ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial has remarked we want to see Election Commission so much strong that no one could blow in air its decisions. Faisal Vawda disqualification case came up for hearing before a 3 members  bench of Supreme Court (SC) presided over by CJP Umar Ata Bandial here yesterday.

Wasim Sajjad counsel for Faisal Vawda argued during hearing of case that will EC become court at saying high court. Islamabad High Court (IHC) has not given decision on jurisdiction of EC and EC has not determined facts in right way. Even opportunity was not given to cross examine personnel of US Embassy. CJP remarked high court had referred case to EC to determine facts. Electoral matters are specialisation of EC. We want to make EC robust and powerful.

We don’t want that its decision is blown in air by everyone. Islamabad High Court has upheld life time disqualification decision. Justice Mansoor Ali Shah remarked Faisal Vawda had approached for abandoning citizenship after filing his papers. Counsel for Faisal Vawda told court no objection whatsoever was raised on Faisal Vawda when he was Senator. Election Commission is not a court which could give declaration regarding life time disqualification. Hearing of case was adjourned till October 19.
