KARACHI: Administrator Karachi Murtaza Wahab said that traffic problems in half of city will be solved by shifting heavy traffic to Lyari Expressway. “Reducing traffic pressure on major roads and arteries is top priority of provincial and city administration. Improving infrastructure of city will maintain traffic flow. Efforts will be made to provide 1,000 acres of land near Northern Bypass for truck stands,” Administrator expressed these views while talking to delegation of Karachi Goods Carrier Association at his office here. President Karachi Goods Carrier Association Noor Khan Niazi discussed transport issues including Mauripur Truck Stand with Murtaza Wahab.

General Secretary of Association Ghulam Muhammad Afridi and KMC officials were also present. Wahab said that he agreed in principle with transferring heavy traffic from other roads of city to Lyari Expressway as this move is in wider interest of city. “We have to make traffic system according to changes coming with passage of time that existing road network can be used as per need. Under this objective, city and provincial government have taken several measures which are reaping benefits,” he added. Noor Khan Niazi said that more than 12,000 trucks depart from Karachi on daily basis to deliver goods to different cities of country. He said that transportation of goods from Karachi Port Trust, Site and all other industrial areas is done by same trucks.

He said that transporting goods inside and outside city could be done in better way by providing facilities at truck stand. Karachi Goods Carrier Association will provide all possible support in this regard. Administrator said that problems of city are being resolved with cooperation and consultation of stakeholders. He said that every effort is being made to utilise available resources. He said that transport is main sector that employs millions of people. He said that KMC is taking steps to plant trees across city, adding that Karachi Goods Carrier Association helps to plant trees in front of Maripur Truck Stand. “My doors are open for all kinds of suggestions,” he added.
