Karachi: Sindh Minister for Energy Imtiaz Ahmed Shaikh in letter to Minister for Energy Khurram Dastagir said country cannot tolerate except for expensive electricity, hazardous climate change and Sindh’s solar energy cheap, transparent and environment friendly energy plans should be included in comparative bid.

He said that since long time Sindh’s 1,875 MW wind and 1,400 MW solar power generation projects have been waiting for bid. He added that it is injustice to include, only limited capacity projects of transparent and cheap energy into bid.

Imtiaz Shaikh said that he wants to remind present government has pledged to replace expensive imported fuel power generation projects with cheap and transparent energy projects and under Alternative Renewable Energy Policy 2019, 2,139 MW of electricity generating from wind should be offered for bid, but alternative renewable energy board has shortlisted only 22 winds and 27 solar projects without any clear measure.

He complained that selecting only one of five Solar projects in Sindh is unfair, everyone knows that Sindh is rich province with resources of renewable and alternative energy, but at request of Ministry of Energy, World Bank’s renewable energy studies revealed that after slight upgradation in transmission line and distribution network, can be provided 2,725 MW solar power by 2025 and 10,035 MW wind power by 2030, can be provided

But despite the natural resources of Sindh to generate environmentally friendly electricity, it is unfair not to select Sindh projects, they should be included in bid to encourage cheap, transparent and environmentally friendly energy projects.
