Chinese investments helping Pakistan diversify its energy mix: President

ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi said Chinese investment and contributions to Pakistan’s energy infrastructure are increasing country’s ability to diversify its energy mix based on nuclear, hydel, solar and wind energy in bid to help meet its energy needs.
Talking to General Manager of China Energy International Group Co Ltd Lyu Xiufeng at Aiwan-e-Sadr here President stressed focusing on alternate and renewable energy sources such as solar and wind, besides using efficient and critical technologies to minimise emission of greenhouse gases from coal and oil-based energy sources. During meeting, President was briefed on Neelum Jhelum, Dasu, Suki Kinari, Azad Pattan and Mohmand hydropower projects and Karachi K2/K3, Bhikki Combined Cycle Power Project, Jhimpir Wind Power Projects and M-4 Motorway projects.
Arif Alvi said warm relations between leadership and people of Pakistan and China formed bedrock of Pakistan-China All-Weather Strategic Partnership. President said CPEC is a multi-dimensional project, which is helping country in improving its road, port and communication networks, besides promoting industrialisation in country and meeting its energy and power needs.
He expressed his gratitude to Chinese government and Chinese people for standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Pakistan in wake of recent devastating floods and appreciated initiatives taken by China Energy International Group for contributing to rehabilitation of flood victims in most affected areas of country.
