China-Pakistan youth community distributes relief supplies to GB people

ISLAMABAD: China-Pakistan Youth Exchange Community paid three-day visit to Gilgit-Baltistan region and distributed 1,700 packages of food, tarpaulins, quilts, blankets and other supplies among local people. Following recent floods, significant number of GB people are living in tents and makeshift wooden houses. Standing by people of GB, China-Pakistan Youth Exchange Community distributed second batch of relief supplies to Gilgit, supported by Tencent Charitable Foundation and China Foundation for Rural Development, CEN reported.

Relief supplies were distributed in areas of Gilgit, Ghizer, Khunjerab, Hunza, Nagar and other areas. Accompanied by officials from local government and chamber of commerce, community drove for nearly four hours to Ghizer district distribute anti-disaster and cold-weather supplies to 800 families. Qurban Ali, Chairman of Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry Capital Office lauded China-Pakistan Youth Exchange Community for its long-term assistance to Pakistan.

Community was warmly welcomed and received at office of GB Disaster Management Authority (GB-DMA). Zaheer Uddin Babar, Deputy Director of Authority briefed community on situation in Gilgit and difficulties faced by affected people. He revealed measures taken by Gilgit government to rehabilitate flood victims. He hoped that community could cooperate with more public welfare organizations to help affected Pakistanis in their long-term recovery. In Nagar district, where large number of houses and buildings were destroyed by floods, community distributed materials to 400 affected families. Relief supplies were also provided to 500 affected families in Hunza, Khunjerab. Irshad Sadan Vice President of Nagar Chamber of Commerce and Industry expressed gratitude to community for timely help extended by China to people of Gilgit.
