ISLAMABAD: Former Senate chairman Raza Rabbani said that speculations with regard to presidential system and change in basic structure of Constitution surfaced again. “There is chatter with regard to an attempt to rollback 18th Amendment and create One Unit again,” Rabbani has said.

“No effort will be allowed to rollback 18th Amendment,” Senator Rabbani said. “We were thinking that existing Parliament was thinking about new Parliament but this Parliament thinking to roll back Parliament,” Raza Rabbani said. “Don’t play with basic structure of Constitution,” he advised. He also expressed opposition to passage of Foreign Investment (Promotion and Protection) Bill, 2022 which paved way for signing of settlement deal on Reko Diq mining project as he termed legislation an “Attempt to rollback 18th Amendment”. Raza Rabbani, who is senior leader of Pakistan Peoples’ Party, earlier observed that Parliament’s powers were encroached upon by executive. Through subordinate legislation, an attempt is being made to roll back 18th Constitutional Amendment”, he observed.
