Chairman Senate proposes to constitute committee to address political, economic crises

ISLAMABAD: Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani has proposed constituting committee comprising members of Senate belonging to treasury and opposition benches to address ongoing political and economic crisis, including holding of general elections.

According to press release issued by Media Directorate of Senate Secretariat, he proposed constituting this committee in separate letters written to both leader of House in Senate, Senator Ishaq Dar and leader of opposition in Senate, Senator Dr Shahzad Waseem.

Chairman Senate asked them to nominate members from both treasury and opposition benches to constitute Special Committee for holding political dialogue.

Chairman Senate said that Senate of Pakistan, House of Federation, being stabilising factor of federation is constitutionally bestowed with responsibility of protecting national and political harmony vis-a-vis national and public interest.

By assuming this responsibility and taking note that Parliament is right and only forum for resolution of political issues, given prevailing political and economic situation, Sadiq Sanjrani said ten members Special Committee will be under joint convenership of leader of House in Senate and leader of opposition in Senate and will comprise of four members each from treasury and opposition benches.

He said Senate Secretariat will remain available to assist and facilitate Committee in performance of its functions for preserving political system and for betterment of State and its citizenry.

Chairman Senate asked both leaders of House to provide names of four members for inclusion in Special Committee within two days.
