KARACHI: The Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Energy, Senator Saifullah Abro has said that we have issued a summon to the CEO of K-Electric, in the next meeting the police will arrest and bring the CEO of K-Electric to the meeting, this committee should decide the fate of the CEO of K-Electric will remember that. The committee has also written a letter to the Chairman Senate to issue summon to the CEO of Electric.

Saifullah Abro is a politician hailing from Larkana who is currently serving as a member of the Senate of Pakistan from the Sindh province since March 2021. He belongs to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. According to informed sources but so far his role is limited to just fiery statements; nothing else. Practically he and his committee have failed to produce any results that could serve the poor power consumers of the country. As stated by power activist Aneel Mumtaz his Committee’s official website is point blank with reference to any performance reports, contact numbers of members including the chairman, public relations, and complaints receiving systems.  In the meeting presided over by Senator Saifullah Abro; the Standing Committee of the Senate on Energy, the committee member Senator Fida Muhammad asked the Secretary Power Division how far the agreement of K Electric with the National Grid has reached.

Why is this agreement not been finalized in the last 8 years? This issue is not Kashmir. Secretary Power Division said that he cannot give any date, on which Chairman Committee Saifullah Abro said that the Minister of Energy is so incompetent that he does not come to any committee. Saifullah Abro said where are the details of the 475 billion K-Electric development projects? The details of K-Electric's privatization plans so far should be shown to the committee, members are not ready to take your briefing, they fight me.

In the month of October, Saifullah Abro dubbed K-E a black spot on the face of the entire power system it has completely destroyed besides a choked transmission system. He said that there are big corrupt officers in the power sector. “Power Division is also an accomplice in KE’s corruption,” he alleged. The government is unable to take any action against them. There is a dire need to bring NAB-like law in the power sector too, he remarked. The committee was irked by the non-participation of CEO K-Electric.

The chairman said that the time of the KE has passed and the company has failed to reach to the electricity purchase agreement from the national grid. Is K-Electric not under government control? He said that the power minister should come to the committee and give a briefing on the performance of KE. The committee summoned CEO KE to the next meeting. Abro said that the committee has a lot of discretion in this regard. If someone does not give importance to the committee, we have the power to order his arrest, he warned. The chairman noted that there is not a single chief engineer in the four Gencos. This is the funeral of the Power Division. The condition of the power sector is that no technical employees working there. For God’s sake have mercy on the power sector, Saifullah Abro remarked.
