Centre, Sindh agree to establish SEZ on remaining PSM land

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and Minister for Industries and Production Rana Tanveer discussed revival of Pakistan Steel Mill plan and establishment of Special Economic Zone (SEZ) on remaining land.
Minister Industries Jam Ikarm Dharejo, Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah, PSCM Agha Wasif, Secretary Industries Yasin Shar and Minister was assisted by Federal Secretary for Industries Saif Anjum and his team, according to CM House communique.
CM said that proposed Special Economic Zone project was discussed in Cabinet on May 30, 2024. He added that his Cabinet proposed federal government establish Special Economic Zone on extra land of Pakistan Steel Mill.Chief Minister said that his Cabinet was of view that 700 acres of land earmarked for Pakistan Steel Mills plant should be kept intact for revitalisation of Steel Mills Plant or setting up new Steel Mill, any additional requirement of land for purpose should be worked out mutually.
Rana Tanveer proposed that government was ready to allow provincial government to revive old steel mill plant or install new one on its 700 acres. Chief Minister said that 4,840 acres of land may be utilised to set up SEZ for federal and provincial government. Rana Tanveer said that federal government from its resources would start developing SEZ to be given to Chinese investors.
Murad Shah said that SEZ was located close to sea and its infrastructure was in place along with necessary water and gas facilities. He added that these facilities would be enough to make SEZ one of best zones in country.CM said that his government was working hard to strengthen agro-economy by introducing cropping patterns, strengthening and reviving industrial sector and providing technical education to youngsters.
