KARACHI: Centre handed over control of three major hospitals of Karachi back to Sindh government for 25 years. Government in notification announced control of Jinnah Hospital, National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) and National Institute of Child Health (NICH) Karachi to Sindh government.

Sindh government and PTI-led federal government were at loggerheads over control of three major hospitals of Karachi. Governing board, constituted during PTI government has also been dissolved.

Sindh government will look after administrative and financial affairs of three hospitals. Control of hospitals was taken over by Centre during Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's government.

Under lease agreement, land of three hospitals will remain in name of federal government, Sindh government will be able to make appointments and recruitments in Jinnah Hospital, NICVD and NICH.

In January 2019, Supreme Court had rejected Sindh government's appeal and ordered federal government to take control of JPMC, NICH as well as NICVD.
