Caretaker PM reaffirms Pakistan's desire to strengthen bilateral ties with US

ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul-Haq reaffirmed Pakistan's desire to further strengthen bilateral cooperation with United States in key areas including trade and investment, energy, security and climate change.

Talking to US Ambassador Donald Blome who called on him here Prime Minister appreciated United States' role in helping Pakistan to stabilise its economy and reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to continue reform agenda for achieving sustainable growth.

Noting role that US private sector has traditionally played in supporting Pakistan's economic growth, he hoped that more US companies would explore investment opportunities, particularly to tap vast potential for investment in Pakistan's information technology sector.

Lauding important contributions of Pakistani-American community towards strengthening ties between two countries, he called for increasing people-to-people contacts between two countries.

Prime Minister said Pakistan and US enjoyed longstanding and broad-based relations, rooted in mutual respect, common interests and shared values. He expressed satisfaction on current positive trajectory of bilateral ties.

He emphasised that caretaker government's main responsibility was to assist Election Commission of Pakistan in electoral process and provide constitutional continuity during period of democratic transition.

US Ambassador congratulated him on assuming office and reaffirmed United States' desire for supporting Pakistan's economic and development agenda.
