Caretaker govt, COAS Munir trying to bring investment in Pakistan: Alvi

KARACHI: President Dr Arif Alvi said that incumbent caretaker government and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir were trying to bring foreign investment under joint-ventures to improve economy of country.
He said that decision-making played vital role in putting country on path to economic stability. Addressing 15th Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (REAP)’s recognition ceremony, also attended by Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori at local hotel here, he said that business community could make Pakistan economically strong.
President Alvi said that Pakistan had tremendous potential which could be tapped by taking responsibility. He congratulated REAP for its journey from exports of $ 300 million to $ 3 billion.
President suggesting REAP members they could move to joint-ventures and focus on value-added rice items. He said that ‘Briyani Festival’ was good idea and it was value addition. He invited REAP to organise festival in President House.
Alvi said that rice research institutions should be revived to further grab international market. He, on demand of REAP said that market-oriented institutions should be jointly established by government and REAP.
He said that woman must be employed in companies to empower them and play their role in economy of country. He said we had to impart education to our children to cope with challenges being faced by country.
Kamran Tessori said that rice is second best export of country. He deplored that it had not been recognised as an industry so far.
He said that COAS was fighting economic terrorism along with boarder terrorism. He said that value of dollar had come down.
Tessori said that law and order situation in country would improve as action against illegal immigrants had started in country.
On Palestinians, he said that world should raise its voice for Palestinians and against Israeli brutality. REAP Chairman Chela Ram Kewlani said that REAP was backbone of country’s economy.
He said that rice of Pakistan had become brand at international level. Kewlani said that country had 9 million ton crop of rice. Rice were being exported to Europe, Middle East, Russia and rest of world. He said that Pakistani rice were famous around world due to its quality. Later, President and Sindh Governor distributed awards and trophies among best exporters of rice.
