New York: In a thrilling match at the International Cricket Council (ICC) Men’s World T20 World Cup, Canada secured its first victory of the tournament by defeating Ireland by 12 runs in the 13th match.

The game, held at the New York Ground on Friday, showcased a gripping contest between the two teams. Ireland won the toss and chose to field first, inviting Canada to set a target. Canada, batting first, posted a total of 137 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their 20 overs. The innings began with early setbacks, with the first wicket falling at 12 runs and the second at 28.

Despite the shaky start, key contributions from Nicholas Curtin, who scored a solid 49 runs, and Shreyas Mowa, who added 37 runs, helped stabilize the innings. Other notable performances included Pragat Singh with 18 runs and Aaron Johnson with 14. Ireland’s bowlers put up a commendable effort. Craig Young and Barry McCarthy each took two wickets, while Mark Adair and Gareth Delaney claimed one wicket apiece, keeping the pressure on the Canadian batsmen. Chasing a target of 138 runs, Ireland had a disappointing start. They lost wickets at regular intervals, with the first wicket falling at 26 and subsequent wickets at 32, 41, 50, 53, and 59 runs, respectively. Paul Stirling scored 9 runs, Andy Balburnie made 17, and Harry Tector managed only 7. Lorcan Tucker scored 10, Curtis Campher added 4, and Gareth Delaney scored 3. The standout performers for Ireland were Mark Adair, who top-scored with 34 runs, and George Dockrell, who remained not out at 30 runs. Canada’s bowlers were instrumental in defending their total. Jeremy Gordon and Dalvin Heliger took two wickets each, while Junaid Siddiqui and Saad Bin Zafar chipped in with one wicket each, effectively dismantling the Irish batting lineup. Ireland’s attempt to chase down the target fell short as they were bowled out for 125 runs, handing Canada a well-deserved victory by 12 runs.
