OKARA: Pakistan Peoples’ Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari reiterated his request for Election Commission of Pakistan to announce election date. Bilawal restated his party’s demand for election date announcement during press conference held here.
When questioned, Bilawal took jab at Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz for incorporating Raja Riaz, former National Assembly opposition leader into their party.
Responding to another query, Bilawal expressed, “I myself am young leader and I possess deep understanding of challenges faced by youth. It is time for youth to take charge of their future.” Bilawal mentioned that PPP had long advocated for return of PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif. He emphasised that PPP, under any circumstances, could not be cornered, citing their participation in 2007 elections following tragic passing of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.
Regarding recent objections raised in PPP’s CEC meetings concerning need for fair electoral playing field, Bilawal disclosed that former President Asif Ali Zardari had been entrusted with addressing this issue. He added that if progress was not made, he would urge Asif Zardari to take decisive action. He demanded that objections to level-playing field be removed. Bilawal said, Ask me what alliance going for or not [with any other party] when election schedule is announced.
He pointed out that no one could push PPP against wall, adding that PPP had been demanding return of Nawaz Sharif for long. He also claimed that PPP never stepped back from elections, adding that PPP took care of every segment of society in country. He said that country had been faced with several challenges. When PPP was assigned responsibility, there was an economic crisis in country, he added. He said that there was political and economic crisis in country. We import sugar, wheat and rice.
