Karachi: Despite Supreme Court’s dismissal of possibility of holding general elections in 90-day period defined by Constitution, Pakistan Peoples’ Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari reiterated his demand for polls at earliest, saying that delaying election is to deny them.
“Elections delayed are election denied,” Bilawal said while addressing celebration of golden jubilee of Constitution of Pakistan in an event organised by Supreme Court Bar Association.
In an apparent reference to return of PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif, Bilawal Bhutto said that there should be no further delay in polls following events that took place over weekend. He held that country was in grip of “New form of dictatorship”, demanding Election Commission of Pakistan to immediately announce date of general elections.
Bilawal without naming Nawaz said, “Given events that we witnessed over weekend, I trust there shall be no further delay.
Let us be clear ladies and gentlemen, elections delayed are elections denied. He urged ECP to immediately release date schedule for elections without further delay, stressing that only way forward was to hold free and fair elections where all contenders were given level playing field.
