KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples’ Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that hard working labourers should be given their due rights. Speaking on International Labour Day he said former PM Benazir Bhutto had given workers their rights and workers should be rewarded for their hard work.
Adding on, he said President Asif Zardari carried mission forward in last tenure and had abolished anti-labour laws that were causing great harm to hard-working labourers.
Bilawal Bhutto opposed privatisation of loss-making national carrier Pakistan International Airlines, recommending government to operate it under public-private partnership.
Asserting ownership of Pakistan Steel Mills land by Sindh government, Bilawal stated, “If government cannot revive Steel Mill, it should hand it over to Sindh government and we will run it under public-private partnership.”
He called for abolition of ministries fixed under 18th Amendment and their transfer to provinces, prioritising workers’ rights and well-being. He vowed to continue advocating for workers’ rights, demanding transfer of ministries to provinces.
He said, “Economy of world runs because of hard work of workers while elites earn money because of blood and sweat of labourers.
On privatisation, he said Sindh has successfully implemented public-private partnership model in province and federal government could emulate it. On his ambition to work for labourers, he said governments of Sindh and Balochistan will increase salary more in upcoming budget.
“We want real development in country’s economy and not just in business of few elites,” he remarked. He said that now United Nations and Islamic world will have to talk about freedom of Palestine.
