KARACHI: Chairman Pakistan Peoples’ Party and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto performed groundbreaking ceremony of 1,200-bedded Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases at Korangi. Ceremony was attended by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Health Minister Qadir Patel, Health Minister Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho, Senator Nisar Khuhro, Executive Director NICVD Dr Nadeem Qamar, all provincial ministers, diplomats, MPAs and PPP leaders and workers in number.
Bilawal Bhutto rejected by-election scheduled for Sindh’s local body elections, drawing criticism from Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) which demanded Foreign Minister “Accept reality”.
Countering those who said that his party had done nothing for people in province, Bilawal said, We have made network of hospitals across province. This network of hospitals provides world-class healthcare free of cost. Sindh NICVD can compete against any hospital in India, US, or UK, he said. He alleged that “Health card” being offered in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was nothing but fraud. In name of health card, people’s money was being given to private insurance companies instead of hospitals. I appeal to certain political party to leave behind its extremist ideologies and its politics of hate. Speaking on matter of by-elections in metropolis, he said that they were supposed to take place around year ago. While first phase was carried out time; however, seeing that PPP was winning second phase, they delayed second phase consistently, citing various excuses. For first time, PPP swept through the Hyderabad and Karachi divisions, PPP Chairman said. Who is stopping people from having their representatives come to power? he asked, adding, We reject this joke of schedule. He requested Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Law Minister Murtaza Wahab to challenge schedule in Sindh High Court.
New ZAB institute of cardiovascular disease stretches over an area of 40 acres located just north of intersection of Main Korangi Road with Shah Faisal Korangi Road. Site is bordered on south by Institute of Animal Health. CM Murad apprised PPP Chairman about new ZAB institute and about health initiatives he has taken so far. He said that upon completion, ZAB Institute would be world’s largest cardiac centre, catering to projected population of 20 million in Karachi and also to rest of country.
