HYDERABAD: Amid an ongoing ‘Split’ over issue of timely polls with his father, Pakistan Peoples’ Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that from leadership to workers, all are bound by decisions of the party.
“We will make collective decisions, carry everyone along and as you have never disappointed me, I will never disappoint you,” he said while addressing party workers here.
Delay in the general elections date laid bare apparent simmering political differences within PPP after Bilawal asserted that his allegiance to his father and party co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari was solely limited to confines of household, independent from political matters.
He was reacting to statement attributed to former President who stated that “Completing delimitation exercise was necessary before holding polls”.Zardari maintained that ECP is bound to redraw boundaries of all constituencies after fresh and updated census. Sticking to demands of timely elections, Bilawal however, made it clear that he held his ground when it came to politics, Constitution and party policy, putting him at odds with his father’s stance over elections.
Bilawal said that if general elections cannot be held within 90 days after dissolution of National Assembly on August 9, then at least it should be told when same are going to be held. “It is being said that it is not possible to hold elections in 90 days, but I think general elections can be held within 60 days,” he contended.
He emphasised people are grappling with worries about sending their children to school, caring for their elderly family members, managing electricity bills, and coping with rising petrol expenses.
He said next week he will chair party’s Central Executive Committee in Lahore. He reaffirmed his commitment to participating in elections, asserting, “We are accustomed to facing challenges head-on and we will not run from elections.”
He revealed his attempts to convince Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan to participate in local elections, stating, “I begged them not to give their place to PTI, but they withdrew out of fear.” PPP leaders Sharjeel Memon, Nasir Shah and Nisar Khuhro were present at launch of MGD 6 water filter plant.
MGD 6 water filter plant, with daily capacity of six million gallons is poised to provide clean and safe drinking water to an estimated population of 200,000 residents residing in Latifabad and Hussainabad. Managing Director Vasa briefed Bhutto significance of infrastructure development for Hyderabad’s future.
