ISLAMABAD:Pakistan Peoples’ Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari reiterated his commitment to completing constitutional amendments, stating that if they are finalised before October 25, matter can be resolved peacefully.
In session with reporters, Bilawal was asked about his stance on Imran Khan’s military trial. He replied, “We need to assess evidence first, after all, we have authority to grant presidential pardon.” He maintained that PPP stands against death penalty.
When questioned about proposed constitutional amendments and their deadline of October 25, he stated, “If amendments are made before October 25, matter can be settled peacefully. While they can be done later, it may lead to confrontational situations.”
He asserted that PPP would not abandon matter concerning constitutional court, vowing to see it through to completion. “We have already faced significant delays, our demands date back to 2006 and are part of our manifesto,” he added.
He said that Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman is having wish to take Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf on board over constitutional amendment.
Speaking to media here, he foresaw “Face-to-face” situation on constitutional amendment after October 25. “We will not let leave matter of constitutional court without wrapping up.”
“Reason for establishment of federal constitutional court is history of Supreme Court,” he maintained.
On Karachi unrest case, which has been ongoing since 2011, he noted that judiciary had affected local government system under pretext of this case, questioning whether unrest existed only in Karachi, as Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan also face similar issues.
He criticised political manoeuvring regarding selection of next Army Chief, suggesting that events on May 9 were bordering on insurrection.
