WASHINGTON: US President Joe Biden has called on Hamas to agree to new offer from Israel on releasing hostages in exchange for Gaza ceasefire, saying this is best way to begin winding down deadly conflict, Reuters reported.
"With ceasefire, that aid could be safely and effectively distributed to all who need it," Biden said. "As someone who's had lifelong commitment to Israel, as only American President who has ever gone to Israel at time of war, as someone who just sent US forces to directly defend Israel when it was attacked by Iran, I ask you to take step back, think what will happen if this moment is lost," he said. "We can't lose this moment."Meanwhile, Jordan has announced it will host an emergency summit on June 11 to coordinate humanitarian response to fighting in Gaza, AFP reported.
Gathering at Dead Sea resort, which is being jointly oganised with Egypt and United Nations will bring together aid agency chiefs and heads of donor governments. It "Seeks to identify ways to bolster the international community's response to humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza Strip", Jordanian Royal Court said in statement.
On other hand, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has acknowledged that humanitarian situation is "Dire" in Gaza as Israel pushes in deeper, despite US efforts to bring in more assistance, AFP reported."Humanitarian situation remains dire for people in Gaza," Blinken told reporters in Prague when asked about Power's remarks. "We've seen changes- some positive changes-but net effect is not there," he said.
Moreover, Iran's Embassy in Stockholm has denied accusations it is recruiting criminal gang members, some of them children, as proxies to commit "Acts of violence" against Israeli interests in Sweden, AFP reported."
Paying attention to source of this information clearly shows that it is false," Embassy said in statement on its website, adding that media coverage based on documents from Israel's secret services was "False and baseless.
"Embassy said it "Expects Swedish media not to trust claims and reports published by Israeli regime" and to work for "End to crimes of Zionist regime in Palestine".
