B’desh Deputy HC addresses ‘Unlocking Creative Economy’ seminar

Karachi: Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner S. M. Mahbubul Alam addressing seminar ‘Unlocking Creative Economy’ jointly organised by Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) and Islamic Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (ICCIA) said culture and creativity accounts for 3.1 percent of global Gross Domestic Product and 6.2 percent of all employment in world. Cultural and creative economy contributes $ 2.2 trillion to global economy and creates employment opportunities for over 30 million people globally including OIC countries. He emphasised creating informed awareness and deep enthusiasm among creative people in area of cultural and creative economy.
There are ample opportunities for wider and deeper cooperation and collaboration among member countries of OIC for promotion of creative economy. Diversities in their own and identical culture, arts, design and so forth related to cultural and creative economy. Bangladesh has been working to develop creating economy and at same time playing commendable role to promote creative economy in OIC countries and beyond.
UNESCO created prestigious Prize for Creative Economy in 2021-UNESCO-Bangladesh Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman International Prize for Creative Economy Prize. Initiatives support young entrepreneurs in field of creative economy across globe.
He said prize consists of $ 50,000 cash and government of Bangladesh is proud to be financial contributor of entire prize money and awarded biennially to exceptional initiatives of an individual, institution, entity, or non-governmental organisation. On November 11, 2021 Audrey Azoulay Director-General of UNESCO and Sheikh Hasina Prime Minister of Bangladesh awarded this prize for creative economy to MoTIV Creations Limited of Uganda in Paris.
President of FPCCI Irfan Iqbal Sheikh, diplomats of OIC countries including Consuls General of Indonesia and Malaysia Consulate General of Iran and Türkiye, Secretary General of ICCIA Yusuf Hasan Khalawi, Advisor to Director General of ICESCO.
