The BBC has unveiled its prestigious list of ‘100 Women for 2024,’ and among the distinguished honorees are two trailblazing Pakistani women: renowned singer and philanthropist Hadiqa Kiani, and human rights activist Mahrang Baloch.
Their inclusion in this global recognition celebrates their remarkable contributions to society, making waves both in Pakistan and internationally.
Hadiqa Kiani, known for her soulful music and humanitarian work, has been acknowledged for her commitment to social causes. Throughout her career, she has used her platform to raise awareness about various issues, including education, women’s rights, and poverty alleviation.
Beyond her music, Kiani’s work as a philanthropist stands out, particularly her efforts in supporting marginalized communities. Her charity, the Hadiqa Kiani Foundation, has made significant strides in providing aid to those in need, especially in rural areas of Pakistan.
The BBC recognition shines a spotlight on Kiani’s efforts to bring change through art and activism. Expressing her gratitude upon being named to the list, she shared, “Being recognized by the BBC is an honor, but it’s a reminder that there’s still much more to be done.
I am humbled to be in the company of such incredible women, and I promise to keep working toward a better future for all.”
Alongside her, Mahrang Baloch has also been celebrated for her courageous work advocating for human rights and justice, especially for marginalized communities in Balochistan. As an outspoken advocate for women’s rights, Baloch has fought tirelessly against gender-based violence, discrimination, and human rights abuses.
Her efforts in bringing attention to the struggles faced by Baloch women have gained international recognition, positioning her as one of Pakistan’s leading voices for social change.
