Baqar directs audit of all public sector universities across Sindh

KARACHI: Caretaker Chief Minister Sindh Maqbool Baqar directed university and boards department and Sindh Higher Education Commission (SHEC) to conduct audit of all 27 universities. Interim CM issued these directives while presiding over meeting of universities and boards department and SHEC here.
Meeting was informed that number of universities had not held meetings of their Senate for long.
At this, interim CM asked authorities to take action against such universities, including Karachi University and Sindh University, for not holding meetings of their Senates.
Meanwhile, Karachi University resumed classes following Higher Education Council disbursed ‘pending funds’ to universities across Sindh. University Professors’ Association confirmed that teaching process will be resumed today as their demand is met with HEC on directives of caretaker Chief Minister. According to details, grant for second quarter of year 2023-2024, total of Rs 14.39 billion has been released by HEC for universities across province.
Higher Education Commission Sindh allocated substantial amount of Rs 430 million to Karachi University after which Professors’ Association announced to resume teaching process. Similarly, grant of Rs 430 million was allocated for Sindh University, while Rs 270 million granted to Dawood University, moreover, Rs 190 million allocated to Jinnah Sindh Medical University and Rs 280 million granted to NED University.
