KARACHI: Pakistan's Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has traveled to Davos, Switzerland, to participate in the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting, which is scheduled to take place from January 20 to 24, 2025.

During his visit, the finance minister will engage with a wide range of political, trade, and business leaders from around the world, as well as representatives from various international organizations. A statement from Pakistan's Ministry of Finance (MoF) highlighted that Aurangzeb would present Pakistan's economic outlook at the forum. In addition, he will actively participate in various high-level discussions and sessions focused on global economic issues. One of the key discussions Aurangzeb will join as a panelist is centered around the rising global debt burden, particularly its impact on developing economies. The minister is expected to offer insights on how fiscal policy changes and improved debt sustainability can contribute to building robust and resilient economies. Additionally, Aurangzeb will take part in another critical discussion on the transformative effects of emerging technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and automation, on trade and investment. In this session, he will discuss how these technologies can foster more equitable and profitable trade and investment opportunities, providing Pakistan's perspective on leveraging innovation to drive economic growth. During his time at the WEF, the finance minister is also set to meet with senior officials from several countries, including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Qatar. These meetings will provide an opportunity to discuss bilateral economic relations, cooperation on various international issues, and opportunities for increased trade and investment. Aurangzeb will also attend two significant sessions organized by the Pathfinder Group. These discussions will focus on key topics such as "Digital Pakistan" and "Investment in Pakistan." These sessions are aimed at promoting Pakistan's digital transformation and highlighting the country's investment potential to a global audience of investors and industry leaders. The 55th edition of the WEF is being held under the theme "Collaborating to Stay Ahead of the Era of Smart Technologies." This year's meeting is expected to draw heads of state, government officials, business leaders, and representatives from civil society. Over 1,000 high-level participants from various sectors, including the private sector, academia, youth, and civil society, are expected to attend. The World Economic Forum's annual meetings provide a platform for leaders from across the globe to come together, share insights, and collaborate on addressing pressing economic challenges. As a member of Pakistan's leadership team, Finance Minister Aurangzeb's participation underscores the country's commitment to engaging with the global community on key issues such as economic development, technology, and international trade. The forum also serves as an opportunity for Pakistan to promote its economic agenda, discuss reforms, and seek support for its development goals, all while building stronger relationships with potential trade partners and investors.
