Atleast 50 dead in 'suicide blast' at ex-governor's funeral

Kabul: A devastating blast rocked a masjid in Afghanistan's Badakhshan province where funeral prayers of province's former deputy governor were being offered. According to local sources, some 50 people died while 25 others sustained injuries during blast at Nabawi Masjid in Hesa-e-Awal area of Faizabad. Eyewitnesses revealed that explosion was triggered by suicide bomber who targeted congregation directly. Among victims was Mulvi SaifUllah Samim, former police chief of Baghlan province.
"Locals estimate that blast claimed lives of around 50 people, including senior officials and Samim, ex-police chief. Wounded were promptly transported to Faizabad hospital for urgent medical treatment," stated local resident, claiming that blast was carried out by suicide bomber.
