Balochistan is the largest but equally backward province of the country. Since the establishment of Pakistan, every government that has come to power has been saying that the solution of the political problems of Balochistan, peace and order, and construction and development are its first priority.
Some work has been done in this regard. The federal government of Pakistan People's Party had also started a program called "Rights of Balochistan", but the practical situation is that even today there is a popular movement in the province for political sovereignty and authority over the coast and resources, and in this background, the country's enemy forces are getting an opportunity to spread insecurity and terrorism. In a high-level meeting presided over by President Asif Ali Zardari in Gwadar on Friday, the matters of peace and order and construction and development in the province were considered and a detailed briefing was given.
In addition to the federal interior minister and the provincial chief minister, high civil and military officials participated in the meeting. The President of the State rightly said in his address on this occasion that prosperity, development and peace and order will come only through political negotiations in Balochistan. Referring to the growing terrorism in the province, he said that the capacity of the law enforcement agencies must be increased to control it. Competent police officers should be appointed. In order to punish the terrorist elements, the prosecution system should be improved and the compensation to the families of the martyrs should be increased to bring it at par with other provinces. President has correctly assessed the problem of Balochistan. The use of force was always preferred to solve the problem of Balochistan, which resulted in further acrimony, whereas the real solution to this problem is meaningful political negotiations. The patriotic people of the province can be satisfied only through negotiations. As a matter of fact, this is high time to focus on Balochistan issues. Rich in natural resources and the largest province of Pakistan in terms of area, why is it the most backward region of the country even after a century? What are the problems of the Baloch people? Armed resistance movements have been active here for decades.
What measures are necessary to bring the Baloch youth who have resorted to violence into the mainstream? These are the questions to which the newly elected provincial government, by finding the correct answer and implementing the measures according to them, can rid Balochistan of the terrorism that has been going on for years and can move on the path of peace and development. Mir Sarfraz Bugti, who took over the post of Chief Minister of the province after the election, had secured 41 votes in the House of 65 members, while the National Party of Dr. Abdul Malik Baloch, which holds four seats in the Assembly, did not participate in the election. The NP also boycotted the election of Speaker and Deputy Speaker and announced that their legislators sat on the opposition benches. The JUI(F), which has 10 members, was absent from the House during the voting for the election of the Chief Minister. However, Jamaat-e-Islami MPA Abdul Majeed Badini and Haq Du Tehreek leader Maulana Hidayatur Rehman Baloch cast their votes in favor of the joint candidate of People's Party and Pakistan Muslim League (N) for the leadership of the province. The Awami National Party, which has three members in the assembly, supported Sarfaraz Bugti.
It is clear from this detail that the new Chief Minister of Balochistan has the support of the majority of the members of the provincial assembly. However, the parties that do not support them should also cooperate in solving the problems faced by the province instead of opposing them, and in case of disagreement with the government's actions, they should play their role positively by pointing out their shortcomings through constructive criticism. It should be done that this is the demand of real democratic traditions. It is clear from the speeches of Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti in the Balochistan Assembly that he is fully aware of the challenges facing his government. Speaking on the floor of the House, he has always urged the Baloch rebels to abandon the armed struggle and join mainstream politics to achieve people's rights. The Chief Minister has clarified on many occasions that dialogue is the right way to solve all problems and his party believes in dialogue and reconciliation and wants the rebels sitting on the mountains to come down, join the national mainstream and participant in the development of the country, especially the province of Balochistan.
The chief minister recently also assured the protestors that the government would provide all possible support for their rights enshrined in the constitution, but despite repeated appeals to desist from violence, if the writ of the state continued to be challenged, the government would follow the law. The Govt will not shy away from fulfilling its responsibility for the sake of maintaining the supremacy of law and the protection of life and property of the people will be given priority. Mentioning other issues, he has said on many occasions that the government will take all possible steps to solve the problems of governance, education and health in the province. The new government of Balochistan has the ability to make better progress in solving the problems of the Baloch people due to the support of the two major parties of the country forming the government, so every possible effort should be made to ensure that the new democratic era is the harbinger of development and prosperity for the people of Balochistan. A positive response to the offer should be done through dialogue instead of guns.It is also worth-mentining here that peace in Balochistan is also important for the game-changer project CPEC. However, our arch-rival India wants to sabotage this project and for this it funds the separatists and anti-state elements in the country, particularly the Baluchistan province. In order to stop this project, India with the help of the anti-state elements made a strong push. Apart from external factors, some internal elements also put obstacles but all their efforts failed and now the situation is that almost all the countries of the region and some countries of the outside world are eager to be a part of it. Recently, China announced a plan to lay a railway line from Kashgar to Gwadar at a cost of fifty-eight billion dollars.
The project will connect the 1860-mile long railway system from Gwadar to the Xinjiang city of Guanzhou. The Chaman border with Iran is of great importance in the backdrop of Pakistan-Iran relations, which are giving hope for a bright future. A serious proposal of mutual trade through Islamabad, Tehran, Istanbul train is under consideration
