KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples’ Party co-Chairman and former President Asif Ali Zardari welcomed CJP suggestion for political parties to hold talks for election date. As per details, political parties have initiated talks to solve issue regarding elections, Asif Zardari added. He said when PDM coalition parties come on one-page on general elections then PDM will approach opposition as well.
PPP co-Chairman Asif Zardari further said that if CJP gives some time then holding elections on one day will be possible through consultations. Earlier, Supreme Court issued notices to major political parties for today (Thursday) on petition filed by defence ministry seeking general elections across Pakistan simultaneously.
During hearing AGP told court that almost all political parties have agreed on holding talks on issue of general elections and if court can allow some time then this matter can be solved. Chief Justice of Pakistan remarked that if all political parties come on same page then court can make some room for this matter too.
Jamaat-e-Islami too has hailed CJP's recommendation and like Zardari, it has sought more time from Supreme Court for negotiations between political stakeholders. Party said under leadership of its Chief Sirajul Haq, JI was making efforts to kick off process of negotiations with sincerity.
JI said it had already started discussions and contacts with other political parties for this purpose. Earlier in day, during proceedings of case related to delay in polls, Attorney General for Pakistan said Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari had met premier day earlier and all ruling parties, except one of them were willing to talk with PTI. He added that matter could be hopefully resolved if "Court gave more time".
