Asif Zardari, Nawaz, Fazl discuss appointment of judges to top court

ISLAMABAD: Heads of coalition parties held an important telephonic conversation to discuss appointments of judges in top court. Sources told that Nawaz Sharif, Asif Ali Zardari and Maulana Fazlur Rehman held telephonic conversation to discuss appointments of judges in top court. It was suggested that judges’ appointments should be finalised through parliamentary committee.
Sources added that they also held consultations regarding legal and constitutional amendments for judicial commission. They exchanged views on further empowering concerned parliamentary committee.
Farooq H Naek has been directed to prepare recommendations. Heads of coalition parties agreed on ensuring supremacy of Parliament and presenting report of Supreme Judicial Council’s report before Parliament. During telephonic conversation, they agreed on ending limited role of parliamentary committee for judges appointments like post office and increasing its powers. They also held discussions regarding amendments to contempt of court law. Heads of coalition parties also agreed on preparing draft law for judicial reforms.
