Karachi: Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, daughter of President Asif Ali Zardari has thrown her hat into electoral ring by submitting her nomination forms for Shaheed Benazirabad’s NA-207.
Following President Zardari’s triumph in general elections held on February 8 in constituency, where he secured victory, Election Commission of Pakistan declared National Assembly seat vacant as per legal stipulations, subsequent to his ascension to presidency.
Aseefa, buoyed by support of party stalwarts, made her official nomination submission at Returning Officer’s office in Shaheed Benazirabad.
Among her companions was Sindh Health Minister Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho, alongside other notable party leaders. Simultaneously, Aseefa Bhutto’s impending assumption of title of first lady of Pakistan adds another dimension to her burgeoning political career.
This rare occurrence deviates from tradition, as historically, position of first lady has been reserved for spouse of head of government or state.
Aseefa’s journey to forefront of politics has been characterised by her steadfast support for her father and PPP.
Notably, her presence at her father’s oath ceremony as President symbolised her unwavering commitment to party’s cause.
