Paris: Arshad Nadeem-Pakistan’s last athlete and medal hopeful-is poised to compete in javelin throw event at Paris Olympics today.
Event organisers have announced groupings, placing Nadeem and India’s Neeraj Chopra in Group B. Javelin throw competitions will take place today afternoon. In Group B, alongside Nadeem and Chopra, are World No. 5 Edis Matusevicius and World No. 6 Anderson Peters. Also competing in this group is Germany’s Max Dehning, who has thrown over 90 meters in this series. Action in Group B will commence at 2:50pm Pakistan time, with Arshad Nadeem scheduled to throw fifth. This year, qualification standard for medal round has been raised, requiring athletes to achieve minimum throw of 84 meters to secure their place. Total of 12 athletes will qualify for final round. If fewer than 12 athletes meet 84-meter mark, those with best throws will advance. In total, 32 athletes will compete in javelin throw events, divided into two groups.
