ISLAMABAD: Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has made installation of conical baffles mandatory in all kinds of gas-run geysers including existing and new ones by December 2023 aimed at saving precious and scarce commodity.

“Total approximate savings in gas will be 6.4 Metric Million Cubic Feet per Day with help of this initiative. Deadline of December 2023 has been set for installation of conical baffles,” OGRA spokesman Imran Ghaznavi said.

Decision to conical baffles’ installation had been taken to conserve energy and eliminate gas shortages in country, he said.

It would result in reduction of 20-25 percent in gas bills charged on account of geyser usage. “This initiative will also greatly help in minimising ongoing natural gas crisis in country.”

Currently total number of gas consumers in country is 10.65 million, out of which 3.088 million are using geysers. Earlier, he advised consumers to ensure careful use of gas appliances including heaters, geysers and stoves to avoid any untoward incidents.

“Never use or store solvents, aerosols or pressure pack cans near a gas heater even if heater is turned off, pilot light may still be on,” he said.

He said authority initiated safety campaign through its stakeholders and licensees aimed at educating general public about possible safety measures to avoid loss of precious lives and property.
