The three children of renowned Indian music composer AR Rahman - Khatija, Raheema, and Ameen - have issued their first public statements following the announcement of their parents’ separation. The music legend and his wife, Saira Banu, confirmed their split on Tuesday through a joint statement released by their lawyer, Vandana Shah.
According to the statement, AR Rahman and Saira Banu, who had been married for 29 years, made the difficult decision to part ways after facing significant emotional challenges in their relationship. Despite their deep affection for each other, the couple acknowledged that the growing tensions had created an insurmountable distance, making it impossible to maintain their bond.
In response to the news, the couple’s children took to social media to express their feelings and appeal for privacy during this difficult time. AR Ameen, Rahman’s son and a singer, shared an Instagram story asking fans to respect the family’s privacy. “We kindly request everyone to respect our privacy during this time. Thank you for your understanding,” he wrote.
Raheema Rahman, the couple’s influencer daughter, reposted her father’s statement on X (formerly Twitter) and simply added, “Keep us in your prayers.”
Khatija Rahman, the eldest daughter and a singer, also spoke out on Instagram, requesting that the matter be treated with respect and privacy. “I would greatly appreciate it if this matter could be treated with the utmost privacy and respect. Thank you for your consideration,” she wrote.
