Appeal pleas filed in Benazir Bhutto assassination case to be heard today

LAHORE: Hearing of appeals in Benazir Bhutto assassination case has been fixed for hearing after several years. Appeals have been fixed for hearing before Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi bench. Division bench comprising Justice Mirza Waqas and Justice Chaudhry Abdul Aziz has been constituted by Chief Justice LHC to hear 8 appeals. Hearing will take place today. Government has filed appeal against acquittal of accused in Benazir Bhutto assassination case. Appeal pleas filed by police officers Saud Aziz and Khurram Shahzad against their conviction will also come up for hearing.

Both of these police officers are on bail. Two officers were awarded 18 years Imprisonment and fine Rs one million each. Appeal filed by former President Asif Zardari seeking enhancement in conviction of accused will also be heard. Notices have been issued by court to former President Asif Zardari and accused including former President late Pervez Musharra and convicted police officers. Pervez Musharraf is absconder in this case and appeal filed against him is likely to be dismissed due to his death.
