Anwaarul Haq Kakar takes oath as eighth caretaker PM

ISLAMABAD: Anwaarul Haq Kakar took oath as eighth caretaker Prime Minister of Islamic Republic of Pakistan. President Arif Alvi administered oath to caretaker Prime Minister during simple ceremony at President House here.

Former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, also present at ceremony congratulated newly-appointed interim premier.

National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani, Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori, Punjab Governor Balighur Rehman, PTI Senator Shehbaz Waseem, PPP's Faisal Karim Kundi and others attended ceremony.

"Anwaarul Haq Kakar member Senate of Pakistan has resigned his seat as his principled stance of neutrality on becoming caretaker Prime Minister, by writing under his hand in person before Senate Chairman," notification said.

Later caretaker Prime Minister assumed his responsibilities after taking oath of office. PM sought briefing from all ministries on important matters. PM Kakar held meeting with delegation from Balochistan. Senator Sarfraz Bugti and Mir Khalid Lango were part of delegation. Delegation felicitated him on assuming office and expressed their best wishes for him.

Separately, PM Kakar also held meeting with former provincial minister Mir Asim Kurd Gello. Asim Kurd Gello greeted PM on assuming office.

 

Anwaarul Haq Kakar belongs to Qilla Saifullah district of Balochistan. He is one of original architects of Balochistan Awami Party.

He is second person from Balochistan to spearhead interim set-up after Mir Hazar Khoso who became caretaker premier in 2013.

Kakar made his electoral debut in 2008 on PML-Q ticket, contesting polls in NA-272 constituency, but lost to PPP candidate Nasir Ali Shah. Later, he joined PML-N and served as then-CM Sanaullah Zehri's spokesperson for almost three years.
