KARACHI: Fumigation drive launched for prevention of Dengue and malaria was halted because Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) ran out of fuel. According to sources, KMC has halted anti-Dengue spray across city due to non-availability of petrol and diesel for past four days. Sources said that almost 20 litres of diesel and 40 litres of petrol was required per day for conducting fumigation.

They added that fuel was not being provided by KMC officials despite complaints. A day earlier, 254 new cases of Dengue virus were reported in Karachi as provincial capital remained in grip of mosquito-borne disease. According to provincial health department, majority number of cases in Karachi have been reported in district Korangi, where 112 patients have been infected by virus during past 24 hours. District East reported 34 cases, Central 53, Malir 20, South 10, Keamari 7 and District West reported 15 cases. A total of 5,425 cases of Dengue fever cases were reported in Karachi this month.
