KARACHI: Renowned poet and drama writer Amjad Islam Amjad passed away at age of 78 due to cardiac arrest here. He wrote numerous poems and lyrics for Pakistani television dramas and films, which earned him widespread recognition and respect. Amjad Islam Amjad is also recipient of Sitara-e-Imtiaz and is author of more than 40 books in career spanning 50 years.
He received many awards for his literary work and screenplay for TV, including Pride of Performance. Some of his well-known dramas are ‘Waris’, ‘Dehleez’, ‘Samandar’, ‘Raat’, ‘Waqt’ and ‘Apnay Log’.
Amjad Islam Amjad got his first award in 1975 for TV drama ‘Khawab Jagte Hain’. News of his death has sent shockwaves through Pakistani literary and entertainment communities. Amjad Islam Amjad leaves behind legacy of great poetry and lyrics that will continue to inspire generations to come.

President Dr Arif Alvi taking to twitter offered his condolences over demise of renowned playwright and poet Amjad Islam Amjad. He said, “We have lost a man known for his wisdom, literature, Urdu language and plays”. Dr Alvi praye Allah for his higher ranks in jannah and grant fortitude to bereaved family. PM Shehbaz Sharif expressed sorrow at famed poet and screenwriter Amjad Islam Amjad’s passing. He prayed for deceased’s soul and high rank in heaven for him. He sent his condolences to his family.

“Amjad Islam Amjad gave Pakistan memorable TV dramas such as Waris, Fishar and Samandar. His literary contributions will be remembered for ages. His death has deprived Pakistani literature of great author and poet,” he said. Minister for Energy Khurram Dastgir-Khan and former Senator Farhatullah Babar posted to honour great poet.

According to Rekhta, he is author of over 40 books, including Barzakh, Aks and Satwan Dar. Amjad received several awards, including Pride of Performance and Sitara-e-Imtiaz for his literary work. Governor Punjab Baligh Ur Rehman expressed grief over Amjad’s demise. He prayed for him to have high rank in heaven. “Undoubtedly, Amjad Islam Amjad was Pakistan’s number one drama writer. He made name for himself with his unique poetry. Poets and drama writers like him are born after decades. May Allah grant deceased’s family patience,” he said.
Sindh Minister for Information Sharjeel Memon expressed heartfelt grief over demise. In his condolence message, he said that Amjad Islam Amjad had won hearts of people with his unique poetry and through his playwright.
He said that his services for promotion of Urdu literature will always be remembered. Sharjeel Memon prayed May Allah Ta’ala elevate ranks of deceased and grant patience to bereaved.
