Ambassador Haque hails China’s efforts against virus

BEIJING: China’s battle against Covid-19 has truly been peoples’ fight with country overcoming challenges due to whole government and whole-of-nation approach, said Pakistan’s Ambassador to China Moin ul Haque, adding that Chinese resolve and solidarity in endemic fight have been admirable and offered lessons for world. “I must say that I’m so impressed (with) way entire Chinese nation (had) come forward under guidance of central government to fight endemic, which has been challenge not only for China but also for all global humanity,” Haque told China Daily.

Diplomat said he has been in Beijing for last 2.5 years and he has seen firsthand Chinese government’s policies to combat and control endemic. Ambassador Haque visited Wuhan and met some of heroes who were on front line in battle during Covid fight. He said recent adjustment in virus control measures announced by Chinese government is based on logic, reasoning and scientific analysis. Envoy said even during endemic, exchanges between Pakistan and China kept on going. Two sides saw trips by delegations and work on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor continued.

Now, as China has opened its borders again, there will be more exchanges and more flights from Hong Kong to Chinese mainland and to Pakistan and other parts of world, he said, alluding to Hong Kong’s role as key transit hub.

“And we are looking forward to this renewed exchange. I think it is also going to be great help to stabilise global economy,” he said. Diplomat expressed gratitude to Chinese government and Chinese people for helping Pakistan during difficult time of ailment.  Ambassador Haque mentioned that Chinese vaccines have been mainstay in Pakistan’s Covid-19 inoculation campaign. “They helped us save lives in Pakistan, they helped save lives across globe,” he said.
