Amazon’s upcoming spy-thriller Citadel has cost streaming giant whopping $ 300 million for only six 40-minute episodes, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Bombshell report adds Russo brothers’ firing of original showrunner Josh Appelbaum due to creative differences shot up series’ cost.

“We felt like it needed some more character work early to draw people into show,” said Mike Larocca, President and co-founder of Russos’ production company AGBO. “It was that straightforward.”

Coupled with exit of initial showrunner, rehiring of another creator David Weil, with source snitched to outlet that “Huge bunch of material” was scrapped. Material was added, written and shot, which ultimately ballooned reported $ 300 million price tag. However, producer Anthony Russo said steep price of show seems, because to Russos and Prime Video, it’s uncharted territory.

“We love ability to communicate with people all over world and to connect people through stories,” Russo told outlet. “Amazon and [Amazon Studios chief Jennifer Salke] basically brought us brand-new opportunity to do that at scale that’s never been attempted before.”–Agencies
