Karachi: Alkhidmat Karachi’s Disaster Management team has established 24-hour Command and Control Center at its head office to coordinate its measures in face of threat posed by cyclone Biparjoy, which is expected to unleash strong winds, high rainfall and urban flooding in Karachi and its coastal areas. Alkhidmat’s volunteer teams have been put on alert and equipped with all disaster management tools to tackle any emergency arising due to cyclone. Survey of Karachi’s coastal areas such as Ibrahim Hyderi, Redhi Goth and others has also been done and preventive steps have been reviewed.

At Chashma Goth, rising waves have crossed onto roads and nearby areas, causing seawater to enter houses in vicinity. Alkhidmat’s teams have helped local fishermen to haul their boats onto land and fasten them in an orderly and safe manner, while taking stock of situation from them. Later, Alkhidmat’s officials met with Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz and discussed situation with him, assuring him of their full cooperation in tackling any emergency that may arise due to cyclone. Sardar Sarfaraz apprised teams of latest situation and informed them of trajectory of cyclone that is expected to hit Indian coast of Jamnagar, Gujarat before turning towards coast of Sindh. He advised citizens to take necessary preventive measures to protect themselves and their properties from impact of storm.
