ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Communications, Privatization, and Board of Investment, Abdul Aleem Khan, has tasked Pakistan Post with increasing its revenue to Rs14 billion by June 30.
Speaking at a review meeting, Aleem Khan emphasized the need to revamp Pakistan Post's framework and establish a world-class courier service capable of competing with private sector players. He urged for the application of professional expertise to help the organization thrive and ensure its survival. Aleem Khan noted that Pakistan Post had made significant progress in recent months, adopting an improved business model with ample room for further development.
However, he stressed the importance of reducing unnecessary expenses and embracing austerity measures to safeguard employees' jobs. He also pointed out that the postal delivery system had modernized significantly, and Pakistan Post must now adapt to current demands. Emphasizing the need for digitalization and a stronger marketing network, Aleem Khan expressed confidence that these steps would turn the organization into a profitable entity. The minister directed the Director General of Pakistan Post to prepare a new business plan within a week, along with recommendations for further action. This plan will be discussed in a follow-up meeting aimed at driving positive change swiftly. The meeting revealed that Pakistan Post had earned 23.5% more revenue this year compared to the previous one. The organization is working on increasing new business worth Rs1.4 billion and is implementing cost-cutting measures expected to save Rs2.4 billion this fiscal year.
Additional revenue is also anticipated through the collection of arrears from various departments and renting out post office buildings. Pakistan Post's strategy focuses on three key areas: boosting performance, reducing costs, and enhancing services, with further improvements expected as it moves away from traditional practices.
