Ahsan holds interactive session with UNESCAP team in Thailand

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal held an interactive session with Head of Trade, Investment and Innovation Division and team of United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific (UNESCAP).
During meeting, UN officials briefed Minister about role of ESCAP in facilitating member states in trade promotion and cooperation to learn from one another’s experiences and good practices, said news release issued here.
Minister emphasised that political stability and continuity were paramount for reaping the dividends of any economic policy. Jonathan Pincus from United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) regional office joined session through video link from Hanoi, Vietnam, making presentation on Vietnam’s journey of economic progress and development over the years. He mentioned factors that played key role in spectacular economic growth of Vietnam.
Director of Ministry of Commerce in Thailand Sirikan Prasertying made presentation on Thailand’s journey of economic development and export diversification. She explained important role of digitization that brought efficiency into economy. Meeting was followed by question and answers session.
Ahsan Iqbal thanked members of UN-ESCAP, UNDP and representatives of Thai Ministry of Commerce for making presentations on economic development experiences of Thailand and Vietnam.
He underscored, “Such engagements always helped in understanding and learning from each other’s experiences.” Meeting was also joined by Ambassador of Pakistan in Thailand Sahebzada Ahmed Khan and other officers of Embassy.
