ISLAMABAD: Defense Minister Khawaja Asif revealed  that Afghan nationals serving in Army, including two on officer ranks, were among those expelled from country under its drive against illegal immigrants.

Referring to terrorists affiliated with outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in Afghanistan, Asif said vast majority reside in Afghanistan while 3,000-4,000 militants were brought to Pakistan for 'resettlement' during government of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.

"We also briefed National Assembly on issue." Speaking to private TV channel, he maintained that there was no further influx from Afghanistan has occurred at state level, however, infiltration attempts by militants occur from time to time.

He emphasised porous nature of Pak-Afghan Border, highlighting ease with which individuals can cross into Pakistani territory, obtain legal documentation and even be recruited into armed forces.

"As minister of defence, I signed two or three files in which Afghan recruits were discharged, one of them was captain and one was lieutenant."

Stressing need to address issue collaboratively with Afghan government, he cited visit to country's western neighbour made by Pakistan Democratic Movement government during its tenure.
