Affluent to help needy, everyone should act to tackle deforestation: Gov Tessori

KARACHI: Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori said that bona fide charities and non-profits have come to rescue of destitute people in country suffering from unprecedented inflation after state and successive governments failed to ensure their welfare.
Speaking as chief guest at seminar on ‘Entrepreneurship: much needed for national economy’ organised by National Forum for Environment and Health (NFEH) at Governor House Governor acknowledged that state had failed in providing employment and fulfilling fundamental needs of underprivileged families as charitable organisations had emerged as last hope for people living below poverty line.
He acknowledged that underprivileged families had to face unbearable economic conditions due to massive increase in inflation as head of family earning few thousand rupees every month didn’t have means to fulfill all basic needs of people in his house.
He appealed to concerned philanthropists and affluent people to generously donate to sincere and committed charities in country to help them serve downtrodden communities in best possible manner. “Every resourceful person in society has to come forward and play its due role in present dire situation to lessen sufferings of the deprived families,” said Governor.
He appreciated various initiatives started by commercial and industrial entities under concept of corporate social responsibility for uplift of deprived communities in country.
Governor assured audience that he would fully support non-governmental organisations like NFEH to combine CSR-related activities of corporate sector for needy people and increase tree cover for improvement in environmental conditions in country.
Karachi Administrator Dr Syed Saifur Rehman said Karachi Metropolitan Corporation had complete resolve to make clean and green all open urban spaces in city to play its due part in countering adverse phenomenon of climate change.
He told audience that devastating floods in country last year showed that everyone should act responsibly to tackle situation of deforestation. He said that extensive tree plantation should be carried out in urban areas to avoid such deadly disasters in future.
Sindh Energy Secretary Abu Bakar Madani said the government’s successful initiative to extract vast reserves of coal in Thar and consume it for electricity generation had gone long way in economic uplift of underprivileged communities in Tharparkar.
Chief Operating Officer of Saylani Welfare International Trust, Muhammad Ghazal told audience about continuous drive of his non-profit since 2013 to impart Information Technology-related skills to thousands of students from needy families for ensuring their economic turnaround.
Syed Azfar Hussain Project Director of National Incubation Centre in Hyderabad said corporate sector should fully support emerging technology-led startups in country for generating jobs and livelihood opportunities for thousands of graduates who passed out from universities every year.
NFEH President Naeem Qureshi said that his NGO had been constantly running campaign of tree plantation in Karachi for last nine years to make city clean and green.
He said NFEH had planned to develop an urban forest in Karachi in collaboration with KMC and corporate sector.
GS NFEH Ruqiya Naeem praised CSR initiatives of leading companies in Pakistan for helping out needy people. Nadeem Ashraf Vice President NFEH, Raafia Mamujee, Director NUST Dr. Maria Qadiri, President CSR Club Anis younus also addressed.
