Administrator Karachi urges steps to remove encroachments, illegal parking lots

KARACHI: Administrator Karachi Dr Syed Saifur Rehman said that potholes on 28 major roads managed by Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s Engineering Department should be repaired immediately where ever required and keep them motorable.

“All necessary steps should be taken immediately to remove all encroachments from roadsides and footpaths. Sindh government looks towards KMC for betterment of city and KMC officers should use their skills to fullest,” he said addressing meeting of Engineering and Anti-Encroachment departments in his office.

Municipal Commissioner Syed Shujaat Hussain, Director General Technical Services Azhar Hussain Shah, Director Anti-Encroachment Imran Ahmed Rajput, Chief Engineer Abdul Razzaq Junejo, Superintending Engineers of various districts, XENs and other officers were present.

Dr. Saifur said that he had extensive experience of working in Karachi and has knowledge about every area, adding that officers should consider him as their friend.

“Together, we will improve city. Roads affected by previous rains should be repaired and made trafficable for which a complete survey of all areas of city must be done,” he added.

He directed concerned officers to improve civil engineering work and especially improve footpaths to facilitate pedestrians.

He asked officers of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering departments to develop maintenance system of streetlights on modern lines.

It should be removed on priority basis and vehicles used for electrical maintenance work must be kept in good condition.

Administrator directed concerned engineers in all districts of Karachi to make sure to keep streetlights switched on in nights.

He directed officers of Anti-Encroachment Department to remove encroachments from areas including Abdullah Haroon Road, Empress Market, MA Jinnah Road and Rashid Minhas Road. Administrator said that ban on use and sale of plastic bags should also be implemented.

Actions will be taken against illegal parking mafias within limits of District South, West, Central, East Malir, City, Korangi, Keamari besides on Zainab Market, Rio Centre, Saddar Regal Chowk, Passport Office and other areas as these areas are under surveillance.

Orders have also been issued to arrest private people wearing caps and shirts of DMCs and KMC seen on highways.
