Acting Afghan FM likely to visit Capital

ISLAMABAD: Amir Khan Muttaqi, acting Foreign Minister of Afghanistan is expected to visit Islamabad as two neighbouring countries continue to struggle to find common ground on how to deal with banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and its affiliates.
Sources informed that Islamabad and Kabul are currently in contact with each other to finalise date for visit of Taliban’s chief diplomat. Visit is expected to take place in coming week, according to sources. Muttaqi had previously undertaken his maiden trip to Islamabad in November 2021, just months after Afghan Taliban returned to power.
Pakistan hoped that Taliban takeover would improve border security and importantly issue of terrorist sanctuaries would be sorted out. But contrary to expectations, TTP-sponsored attacks have only increased causing friction in bilateral ties. Efforts by Afghan Taliban to mediate a peace deal between on March 2022.
